Since March 2010, Mr. Pires is Executive Director of REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais, SGPS, S.A. and, from 1992 to 2010, was Chairman of the Board of Directors of PARPÚBLICA, SGPS, S.A. and Chairman or Director of its subsidiaries, namely, SAGESTAMO, ADP, and PARCAIXA. Mr. Pires executed, from 1986 to 1991, the function of Executive Director of EDP.
From 1974 to 1989, He was an Assistant Lecturer in Analytical Accounting and Budget Management at Instituto Superior de Economia.
From February 1974 to 1986, Mr. Pires was an Inspector and Deputy Inspector with Inspecção Geral de Finanças (Inspectorate General of Finance) and member of Comissão Executiva de Normalização Contabilística (Executive Committee for Accounting Standardisation), from 1983 to 1986.
