LNG Terminal

We acquired the LNG terminal in Sines on September 26, 2006, by acquiring the total share capital of SGNL. The terminal is held by REN Atlântico, through which we operate the reception, storage and regasification concession for LNG, subject to the public service regime. This concession involves the reception of LNG, the storage of LNG, the regasification of LNG and the delivery of LNG to the national natural gas transmission network. REN Atlântico, under the terms of the concession, performs the activities of loading and dispatching tank truck and marine tankers and also the construction, operation, maintenance and expansion of such infrastructures.

The Sines LNG terminal entered the first phase of its commercial operation in January 2004. The LNG terminal consists of a docking station with a discharge capacity of 40,000 cubic meters to 165,000 cubic meters with an average discharge time of 20 hours, two storage tanks each having a capacity of 115,000 cubic meters and five open rack vaporizers for regasification. The LNG terminal has a guaranteed (nominal) send out capacity of 600,000 cubic meters per hour (5.26 bcm per year), with a peak (interruptible) capacity of 900,000 cubic meters per hour, and is able to load up to 3,000 trucks per year (or an equivalent of 0.08 bcm per year). The following graphs illustrate the evolution of unloading, send-out and truck loading capacity in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
