In fulfilling our mission as a public service provider in the national energy sector, REN is committed to the defence and promotion of the principles of sustainable development, permanently endeavouring to create value for its shareholders and other stakeholders. REN's Board of Directors is committed to adopting a model of ethical, social responsible management and, when making decisions, gives balanced consideration to economic and social aspects and to the preservation of the environment. On the basis of these guidelines, the Board of Directors undertakes to abide by the following principles in all the activities covered by its concession contracts with the Portuguese government, in matters of:
QUALITY, ENVIRONMENT AND SECURITY
- Ensuring respect for legislation, regulations and requirements applicable to its activity and for others that it has voluntarily accepted
- Guaranteeing that quality, protection of the environment, safety and occupational health are always taken into consideration
- • Maintaining and improving management systems for quality, the environment, safety and occupational health and within these aspects establishing improvement goals and interim targets, in compliance with the principle of ongoing improvement. Regularly assessing results with a view to improving the systems' efficiency and making corrections whenever necessary
- Minimising the environmental impacts caused by our activities and promoting the rational use of natural resources and the prevention of pollution and supporting the development of renewable energies
- Using all possible means to prevent occupational accidents and illnesses in order to ensure and maintain high standards of occupational health and safety performance
- Promoting the professional development of its employees, ensuring that their competences are suited to the jobs that they do
- Perfecting mechanisms for relations with stakeholders in order to improve REN's performance and the satisfaction of its employees and other stakeholders based on a better knowledge of their needs and expectations
- Involving not only all the Group's employees in respect for the above principles and commitments but also all suppliers and service providers working with REN

- Contributing to the growth of the economy by managing the Group's activities and investing in the energy sector with a sense of responsibility and in accordance with highest corporate ethics
- Helping to contain the energy costs borne by consumers and to diversify primary energy sources, operating efficiently as a catalyst in the development of alternative energies solutions aimed at more rational energy use
- Ensuring the Group's continued activity by means of appropriate management of current or foreseeable non-financial risks at medium or long term
- Fighting for respect for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the main conventions of the International Labour Organisation on labour rules and the United Nations Global Compact initiative
- Respecting human rights and the freedom to join a trade union, the right to collective negotiation, the eradication of child labour and all forms of forced labour, and other labour practices going against human dignity
