REN AWARDED THE “GOLD STANDARD” IN THE REDUCTION OF METHANE EMISSIONS

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN) was honoured with the "Gold Standard" award by the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0) in its 2021 annual report, for the company's commitment and action in reducing emissions of methane, a very powerful greenhouse gas and whose emissions are the second largest cause of global warming.

The "Gold Standard" award, given this year to REN (Gasodutos, Atlântico - Terminal de GNL, and Armazenagem), honours companies that show a strong implementation programme for the quantification and reduction of methane emissions, in order to have a level of 4/5 (on a scale of 5) in 2024, on the assets they operate.

OGMP 2.0, spearheaded by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), in partnership with the European Commission, UK Government, Environmental Defense Fund and major Oil and Gas companies, seeks to reduce methane emissions and supports the implementation of a well-structured and suitable monitoring, reporting, and verification system to more accurately detect and quantify emissions by the sector's operators. Annual reports under this initiative are the highest methane reporting standard, by requiring companies to report their emissions from all asset sources across the entire value chain.

By participating in this initiative since its establishment, REN has its performance in the integration of renewable energy sources recognised, thus demonstrating its commitment to the goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, maintaining sustainable development, and combating climate change, while reinforcing the company's financial robustness and outstanding operational performance.
