REN establishes a partnership with CERVAS – Centre for Ecology, Recovery, Monitoring and Surveillance of Wildlife

REN established a partnership with CERVAS - Centre for Ecology, Recovery, Monitoring and Surveillance of Wildlife to support this institution in various actions related to biodiversity and environmental education.

CERVAS is a hospital for wildlife located in Gouveia, in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. This centre was created by the ICNF - Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation in 2004, started its operation in 2006 and, since 2009, is under the management of ALDEIA Association, a non-governmental organization with headquarters in Vimioso.

Since 2006, CERVAS has taken in 4078 animals from 175 different species, with a rate of return to nature of 62%. The assisted animals come from the districts of Guarda, Viseu, Coimbra, Aveiro, Leiria, Castelo Branco and, occasionally, from other locations. The teams of SEPNA - Nature and Environment Protection Service of the GNR - National Republican Guard are the ones who, in most cases, bring in the animals, albeit a smaller number is brought in by the ICNF and, in some cases, directly by the people who collected them.
