REN´s Natural Gas Terminal attracts spanish suppliers

The first ever ship of a Spanish supplier has unloaded its cargo at the Sines Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal.

This was the first time the terminal had been used by a foreign operator after completion of the REN Terminal expansion, which has made it capable of unloading natural gas from anywhere in the world, thereby fostering greater competition and lower costs for the end consumer.

The Spanish market players now have another port of entry they can use to place LNG on the Iberian Peninsula market.

João Conceição, Executive Director of REN, said, "The use of the Sines terminal by Spanish players is a very important sign, as it confirms the competitive prices of this facility in the Iberian Peninsula as a whole will help build the integrated Iberian natural gas market."

The LNG carrier came from Algeria and unloaded around 73,000 m3 of LNG, equivalent to about 505 GWh of energy.
