REN wins Florest and Sustainability Award

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais won the Forest and Sustainability Award in the Forest Management and Economy category. In partnership with Correio da Manhã and Jornal de Negócios, CELPA's initiative seeks to honour sustainable and innovative projects in the area of forest resources. The award ceremony took place at Estufa Fria in Lisbon.

As a result of the actions implemented between 2010 and 2018 by REN, over one million trees were planted in an area of more than 2,300 hectares, replacing fast-growing species with native species. In 2018, around 6,100 hectares (24 hectares/day) were cleaned.  The actions are based on a global process, which includes corridor cleaning, landowner registration, landowner notification, as well as coordination and safety.

In addition to REN in the Forest Management and Economy category, the 2019 edition of the Forest and Sustainability awards honoured Centro de Estudos Florestais (Forest Research Centre) in the Innovation and Science category, Montis in the Forest and Community category and Santo André Secondary School in the School category.
