In 2012, REN acquired 7.5% of the capital of the Mozambican company Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), which is the holder of the Cahora Bassa Dam hydroelectric concession, located in the province of Tete, central-western Mozambique.
The company’s main object is the management, operation, and maintenance of the hydroelectric undertaking, which includes a hydroelectric power station with an installed capacity of 2,075 MW, two substations, 1,400 km of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) lines.
The power station supplies electricity to Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and other member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
