Ferreira do Alentejo – Vale Pereiro – Sines axis, at 400 kV 

Goals

  • The ongoing energy transition depends on an increasingly higher contribution from renewable energies to the production of electricity, accompanied by a decrease in the use of fossil fuels. To enable this entire process, one of the necessary components is the proper connection of new renewable power plants to the grids, ensuring that they meet the necessary conditions for the flow of generated energy.
  • Given the power already allocated for new photovoltaic power plants, namely in the south of Portugal, the current Public Service Electricity Grid (PSEG) lacks capacity to accommodate new generation in this region. Specifically, the photovoltaic plant The Happy Sun is Shining (THSis), developed by the promoter SUNSHINING, SA as part of the recent issuance of the Capacity Reservation Title (CRT), with an installed capacity of 1,143 MVA, will require reinforcements to the Portuguese National Transmission Network. These reinforcements will be developed by the Transmission System Operator (TSO) under Agreements with the applicants. Among these, the reinforcements identified by the TSO as necessary for receiving the energy generated by this power station include the opening of the Vale Pereiro switching station and its connection at 400 kV to the Ferreira do Alentejo and Sines substations operated by REN. Namely, the general infrastructure of the Vale Pereiro switching station at 400kV, including the line panels at 400 kV: P411 for the connection to Sines, P452 for the connection to Ferreira do Alentejo, and P412, P422 and P432 for the connection to the THSis photovoltaic plant, designed and constructed by REN but fully funded by the promoter under the Agreements signed.
