Motorization of stork deterrent systems

Challenge

Improve the efficiency of deterring white storks (Ciconia ciconia) from building nests on the supports of REN's high-voltage power lines, mitigating operational, safety, and energy supply interruption risks.

Goals

Automate the movement of deterrents, improving efficiency in preventing nests on turbine supports through the implementation of motorized systems.

Benefits

  • Reduction of 40% in the number of incidents caused by storks on high-voltage (MAT) lines.
  • Permanent monitoring of the system's performance through an online platform.
  • Improvement in the reliability of deterrents and the performance of the electricity grid.
  • Increased safety, as the reduction in stork-related incidents decreases the risk of damage to REN's infrastructures, enhancing the safety of the electrical system.
