Storm Kristin: REN mobilises teams to restore power supply

REN reports that it is working in coordination with E Redes, Rede Electrica (Spain), and the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority and other authorities to restore normal electricity supply to the population as a matter of utmost urgency.

Storm Kristin passed through during the early hours of today with very high intensity, with winds of around 200 km/h recorded.

The supply through REN's high-voltage lines suffered very localised interruptions, and in general, the transport service was maintained.

The cyclonic winds caused serious damage to a substation in the Zêzere area and to lines in the Batalha and Rio Maior areas, which required some technical manoeuvres. Work to rebuild the damaged infrastructure began as soon as weather conditions allowed.

REN had taken precautionary measures to ensure that the storm would have the least possible impact on electricity and gas consumers, namely by placing all its operational teams on immediate standby.

REN will provide a further update on the situation later today.
