On September 10, the National Electric Coordinator recognized the Start of Operation of the project "Ampliación en SE Calama Nueva" ["Expansion in SE Calama Nueva"], owned by Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica Transemel S.A., which became effective during the month of July of this year.

The project was to standardize the connection of the existing 220/110 kV transformer to leave it in the same configuration as the 220 kV courtyard, using hybrid equipment for the respective bays. In addition, the connection of the standby unit of the 220/110 kV transformer bank was automated and the 110 kV courtyard was expanded through the construction of a transfer bar. Finally, the project included the construction of a firewall, oil pit and foundation with collection gutter. With this important milestone, the facilities are available to be considered in the programming and economic dispatch by the Coordinator and, in this way, to give a better service to the entire community of Calama and to the renewable electricity generation facilities that are connected to our substation.
