REN informs that operations to restore power to the national electricity grid are underway, following the power cut that occurred in the Iberian Peninsula and affected Portugal since 11:33 a.m. today.
At this time, it has been possible to restore production at the Castelo de Bode hydroelectric power station and the Tapada do Outeiro thermoelectric power station. With this production, a very gradual process of resuming consumption is underway, first in the region of these power stations and then progressively in adjacent areas.
The necessary measures are also being prepared to resume, first of all, the supply to priority consumption points, such as hospitals, security forces, airports, and rail and road networks.
The operations to restore power distribution throughout the country are particularly complex, as they are starting from a situation of complete blackout and relying solely on domestic production, unlike in Spain, where the return to normality is being aided by contributions from the French and Moroccan electricity systems.
