REN received received a visit, in its National Natural Gas Dispatch Centre, at Bucelas, from the Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment of the Kingdom of Morocco, Abdelkader Amara, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, Abderrahim El Hafidi, the Director General of the Office National de l' Electricité et de l' Eau Potable, Ali Fassi Fihri, as well as the State Secretary of Energy of the Portuguese Government, Jorge Seguro Sanches.
During the visit REN demonstrated to the delegation from the Kingdom of Morocco, the processes involved in the planning and operation of the national natural gas infrastructure and network, as well as the entire system management process. REN holds the concession of mainland Portugal for the national natural gas transport network, underground storage of natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Sines.
This visit took place after the Portuguese Minister of the Economy, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, and the Moroccan Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment had signed, in the Ministry of the Economy, a joint declaration agreeing on the principles of action in the energy sector. The terms of reference for the technical and financial feasibility study of the underwater electricity connection between the two countries were also signed at the same ceremony.
REN is an integrated operator of the natural gas and electricity transport networks of mainland Portugal, which makes it one of the few integrated natural gas and electricity infrastructure operators of Europe.
