Portuguese electricity generation achieves new record

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais registered a new national electricity generation record on 7 March 2018, when 12,043 MW was generated, 555 MW more than the previous record of 18 February 2016. Domestic consumption on that same day was 8,417 MW and around 3,600 MW was exported. The record for domestic consumption is 9,403 MW, which was recorded in 2010.

A new all-time high, of 9,240 MW, was also recorded in the transmission grid on that same day, 100 MW higher than the previous record set on 18 February 2016.

The rain of recent days allowed a new hydraulic generation record to be set on 7 March, 5,689 MW, 142 MW more than the previous record set on 15 February 2016. Installed hydraulic power currently stands at 7,193 MW.

It should also be noted that on 26 February the amount of electricity exported exceeded 4,000 MW for the first time. The new record is now 4,042 MW, which is 400 MW more than the previous record set on 2 January 2017.
