Ferreira - Ourique - Tavira axis. First major project for capturing and transporting renewable energy

One of the largest projects in recent years for the capture and distribution of renewable energy from photovoltaic sources is now in operation in the Baixo Alentejo and Algarve regions.

It comprises 150 kilometres of new lines, the longest stretch of consecutive lines built by REN in the last 20 years. In addition to these figures, there are also more than 400 new supports, the construction of the new Panóias substation and the expansion of the Ferreira do Alentejo and Ourique substations, among others, which complete the Ferreira - Ourique - Tavira axis, the first major project in the field of renewables.

The 24 months of construction culminated last December with the entry into service of this new axis, which extends through Ferreira do Alentejo, Aljustrel, Ourique, Almodôvar, Loulé and Tavira.

This is the first of a series of large-scale projects that REN will develop in the coming years to strengthen the grid and the levels of operational safety and supply of the National Electricity System (SEN), in compliance with the targets set out in the PNEC 2030 for the reception of new renewable production, with a strong impact on promoting decarbonisation and energy transition.
