REN Portgás joins United Nations initiative to reduce methane emissions

Portgás has joined the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0), an initiative led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). By joining this partnership, the natural gas distributor of the REN group joins the collective of leading 'oil & gas' companies from various countries, including the gas transportation, terminal, and storage companies of REN, strengthening their commitment to sustainability.

The OGMP 2.0 aims to reduce methane emissions (a greenhouse gas that, after CO2, contributes most to global warming) by implementing a monitoring and verification system to quantify emissions from 'oil and gas' companies. This initiative requires companies to report emissions from all assets in the value chain (with auditable data) and implement a plan to mitigate these emissions.

Led by the UNEP (the main global environmental authority that sets the international agenda on the subject), OGMP 2.0 is becoming an increasingly comprehensive organisation, currently with 100 associated companies. Its partners include the European Commission, the Clean Air Task Force, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition, the UK government, and the Environmental Defense Fund.
