REN´s LNG Terminal at Sines processed a record numer of vessels in 2013

The processing volume of various types of operations at REN’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal in Sines in 2013 surpassed previous values. The terminal processed 41 ships, conducted 6 ship loading operations and also achieved a new high for loading LNG tanker trucks - 3138 loads in 2013.

The number of vessels processed by the Sines LNG Terminal increased by 8% from 2012, equivalent to an increase of about 100% in terms of quay use (quay occupation time) compared to 2011.

These indicators, according to João Faria Conceição, “show the importance of this infrastructure in the Portuguese energy system, and also indicate the growing interest among market players with this natural gas 'gateway' for Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula”.

There was also a significant increase in loading operations performed and 'cooling' operations, compared to the previous highs. 6 ship loading operations were performed in 2013, compared to 1 in 2012, while the number of 'cooling' operations was equal to the previous high of 5 operations. Both types of loading operations are a recent capability the Company has acquired.

A new high was also achieved with tanker truck loading. 3138 tanker trucks were loaded in 2013, which is around 20% up on the 2012 figure.
