Electricity consumption exceeds 10 GW for the first time in Portugal

On January 6, 2026 (Tuesday) at 7:45 p.m., a new peak consumption record was set for the National Electricity System (SEN), which exceeded 10 GW for the first time (with a provisional value of 10,168 MW).

The previous record was 9883 MW, recorded on 12 January 2021 at 7:30 p.m. On the same day, 6 January, a new record for daily electricity consumption was also set at 186.2 GWh (the previous record was 185.1 GWh, set on 13 January 2021).
