H2med project PCI status renewed in the European Commission's Projects of Common Interest Delegated Act proposal

The H2med consortium members welcome the announcement made by the European Commission (EC), with the publication of the Delegated Act proposal on November 28, 2025. This document establishes the new list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI)/ Projects of Mutual interest (PMI) for the completion of the internal energy market, as proposed by the EC for submission to the Council and European Parliament.

This step is excellent news for H2med, as it confirms the strategic nature of the European corridor by renewing the PCI status for both the BarMar (Barcelona-Marseille connection) and CelZa (Celorico da Beira-Zamora) projects.

The renewal of the PCI status for BarMar and CelZa validates the maturity of these projects, confirming the significant progress already made. This solid basis allows the corridor's momentum to strengthen: the PCI list confirms the extension to other crucial projects aligned with the vision of the Southwest Hydrogen Corridor. The renewal of key infrastructures such as the Spanish backbone and Hy-FEN, along with the inclusion of HySoW and MidHy, reinforces H2med's ambition to become a truly complete and resilient hydrogen backbone, ready to connect Southwestern Europe to the consumption centres in central European countries. This collective success is also underlined by the recent expansion of the H2med Alliance and its commitment to accelerating the European energy transition.

Following this publication, the Delegated Act will be submitted for scrutiny to the European Parliament and the European Council, which have a specific period to raise objections (two months, renewable once). The PCI label grants H2med access to simplified permitting procedures and potential financial support under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), accelerating the project's development toward its ambitious objectives.

The Commission’s announcement comes just before the 6th edition of the PCI Energy Days, which will be held on December 2nd and 3rd in Brussels, where the H2med consortium will be present at stand nr. 35 in the PCI Garden to showcase the project and the corridor.
