Approximately 600 hundred young people and children from five schools in the Parish Councils of Algoz and Tunes, starting today, will be able to enjoy the renovated multipurpose sports field provided by REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais.
The field is located in the town of Tunes, near the REN substation in the municipality of Silves. This project enables the parish to have an additional leisure area, featuring a new surface, new goalposts, fencing, lighting, and a new surrounding space for the public, which includes the planting of 20 casuarina trees and garden benches.
This project emerged under an agreement between the Parish Councils of Algoz and Tunes and REN, in which the Parish Councils manage and maintain the space, while REN is responsible for cleaning the surrounding area once a year. Sérgio Antão, President of the Parish Councils of Algoz and Tunes, expressed his appreciation to REN for “providing a space that is no longer just a football field and can be used for various leisure and sports activities, bringing together both the young and the elderly.
This area is also integrated into a leisure space, promoting local events organised by the community, and fostering community involvement in the region”. João Gaspar, in charge of the area of Sustainable Networks and Easements, emphasised that "this initiative brings together people of various ages in the pursuit of healthy sports activities, contributing to the overall well-being of the community while promoting intergenerational harmony, and encouraging active lifestyles in healthy environments.
It is also a way for us to integrate our infrastructure into local communities," he further noted. The opening ceremony was attended by approximately 50 children from the Agrupamento de Escolas Silves Sul [Silves Sul School Cluster], representatives from the Silves municipality, and various local entities who can now benefit from this area managed by the parish.
