Core LNGas hive in 11th Rally LNG Blue Corridor Iberia

The CORE LNGas hive project, of which REN is a partner, will participate with its semi-trailer in the first stages of the 11th LNG Blue Corridor Iberia Rally, next September 18, between Lisbon, Madrid and Zaragoza.

The rally will run along 5,700 kilometres, through 9 countries covered by private vehicles and semi-trucks powered by natural gas. The final destination will be the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

The project CORE LNGas hive aims to develop a safe, efficient and integrated logistics chain for the supply of LNG as fuel for the maritime sector in the Iberian Peninsula and to boost the decarbonisation of the European Mediterranean and Atlantic corridors.

Liquefied Natural Gas is one of the cleanest fuels, enables the reduction of the dependence on oil, and boosts the process of decarbonizing the European economy since it generates 30% less CO2 emissions than oil and its derivatives. Additionally, it contributes to the reduction of the emission of sulphur oxides (SOx), particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), which will enable compliance with the increasingly restrictive environmental regulation, improving air quality in the port environments.

Co-financed by the European Commission, and with execution expected by 2020, this project integrates 42 Iberian entities, including Government entities, port authorities and industrial companies, with REN being the only Portuguese partner.

In cooperation with the various partners, 25 studies are being developed to identify and create the conditions required for the development of LNG as a fuel, for the creation of training programmes, for the development of the logistics chain and logistics equipment and for the entire adaptation of the port environment.
