REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais is promoting two actions of the programme 'Heroes of all kinds', which are taking place today October 4 at 9:30 am, in Eugénio Andrade Library, Fundão and at 2:30 pm, in São Domingos Elementary School, Covilhã. This initiative, which will gather around 250 students, seeks to raise awareness among youngsters regarding the importance of biodiversity protection, preservation of the Portuguese forest and conservation of threatened or endangered animal and plant species.
The 'Heroes of all kinds' programme, which has the support of the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forestry and of the Directorate-General for Education is directed at children of the 3rd and 4th year of the first cycle of primary education and intends to make them true ambassadors of biodiversity.
Designed to complement the schools' programmes, awareness-raising actions use an interactive and dynamic approach, promoting environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility among the young. Theatre, games and planting trees will be the theme of these actions, which include a presentation by Quercus on animal and plant species.
The Iberian Lynx, the Holm Oak, the Bustard, Bonelli's Eagle, the Black Stork, the Iberian Wolf, the Cork Oak, the Holly and the Strawberry Tree are some of the species highlighted in all the actions and activities being developed.
REN also created a website to enable access to all content, available at www.heroisdetodaaespecie.pt, in which, in addition to teaching materials to be used in the classroom, educational games, trivia and news are also available. REN also expects to publish on the website and to disclose on the company's corporate presence in social networks, all initiatives and actions in the field of biodiversity that are conducted by local authorities and primary schools, thus promoting a national critical mass.
