Portgás, a company fully owned by REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais, was awarded the "Gold Standard Pathway" by the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0) in its 2025 annual report for its methane emissions reduction plan. Portgás thus joins a select group of 29 Distribution Network Operators that have achieved this recognition.
OGMP 2.0 is an initiative led by the United Nations Environment Programme, which Portgás joined in 2023. This acknowledgement of the progress achieved by Portgás in emissions management attests the company's commitment to its sustainability strategy, namely with regard to decarbonisation.
It is worth noting that methane is, second only to CO2, one of the most significant greenhouse gases contributing to global warming. One of the most pressing issues in the fight against climate change is controlling methane emissions, as highlighted in recent editions of COP, the annual meeting of signatory countries to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Sustainability and the development of the gas sector have driven Portgás to invest in innovation. In 2025, the company was awarded the “Inovadora Evolution” status by COTEC, a public recognition of its commitment to leadership in Innovation and Sustainability.
In 2023, Portgás became the first Portuguese company to achieve joint certification for Quality, Environment, Safety, RDI – Research, Development and Innovation, Business Continuity Management System and Asset Management.
