Portgás promotes renewable gases at AGRO

Portgás, a company 100% owned by Redes Energéticas Nacionais, will be at AGRO (International Agriculture, Livestock and Food Fair) to promote its gas network. The decision to take part is based on the possibility of reaching new end customers, but also potential producers of renewable gases, who will be able to find out about the possibility of injecting gases of renewable origin into the distribution network.

For its presence at AGRO, which takes place from 3 to 6 April at the Braga Forum, Portgás has prepared a leaflet on sustainable biomethane which aims to answer the 10 main questions on the subject. This is the first initiative in which Portgás is participating with the aim of promoting the gas network in two ways: as an energy offer for end customers and as an opportunity for producers.

In its 2024 Distribution Network Development and Investment Plan, Portgás proposed an overall investment of more than €100 million in the 29 municipalities of its concession area, with a view to guaranteeing quality of service and the growth of supply points, ensuring the decarbonisation of gas distribution networks and enabling the connection of renewable gas producers.

The REN Group has all its infrastructures certified for the transport, distribution and storage of hydrogen mixtures with natural gas, complying with the decarbonisation objectives set by the Portuguese government. This certification process, carried out by the Bureau Veritas certification body, confirms that, technically, REN fulfils the conditions to transport hydrogen mixtures with natural gas up to 10% on the National Gas Transport Network (RNTG) and in the Carriço Underground Storage (AS Carriço) and up to 20% on the National Gas Distribution Network (RNDG) operated by Portgás.
