REN is consulting the market on projects to inject renewable gases into the Public Gas Network

REN, in collaboration with distribution network operators, will be conducting a consultation between 26 October and 25 November with developers of projects for the production of renewable or low-carbon gases intended for injection into the Public Gas Network. The initiative aims to identify planning requirements and any necessary upgrades to the transmission and distribution networks, for consideration in the draft PDIRG 2028–2037, to be submitted to the DGEG and ERSE by 31 March 2027.

Public consultation

As part of the preparation of the RNTIAT Development and Investment Plan for the period 2028–2037 (“PDIRG 2028–2037”), in particular for the purpose of submitting a proposal to the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) and the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) by 31 March 2027, in accordance with the provisions of the applicable legislation and regulations, namely Article 87(1) of Decree-Law No. 62/2020 of 28 August (current version), and in compliance with ERSE’s recommendations regarding the previous proposal for the PDIRG 2026–2035, all developers of renewable or low-carbon gas production projects aiming to inject such gas into the Public Gas Network (RPG) are hereby informed that REN Gasodutos, S.A. (REN), in its capacity as Gas Transmission Network Operator and the entity responsible for the Overall Technical Management of the gas system, in coordination with the Distribution Network Operators, will launch a public consultation running from 26 October to 25 November this year with the aim of identifying potential planning requirements for consideration in the next edition of the PDIRG 2028–2037.

This consultation serves as a tool which, in addition to contributing to the proper planning of the National Gas Transmission Network and the scheduling of investments in the context of injecting renewable gases into the RPG, it also aims to identify potential needs for reinforcing this infrastructure at the interface between the transmission and distribution networks, with the aim of identifying potential network reinforcement requirements arising from the possible connection of renewable gas production projects to the RPG. The consultation will be launched on the REN website and publicised in the press and on social media.
