REN award applications are now open

REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais has opened applications for the 29th edition of the REN Award, one of the oldest scientific awards in Portugal.

Until 30 April, students with master's theses in energy developed at Portuguese universities can apply for the REN Award, which aims to encourage the development of the energy sector in Portugal and strengthen the interaction between REN and academia.

The REN Award was created in 1995, and in its inception awarded only the best students of electricity systems and networks. It has evolved to incorporate developments and transformations in the energy sector, including natural gas, and, more recently, candidates from other fields, from Engineering to Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Law, Information Systems and Computer Science.

A panel, composed of renowned professionals and chaired by Professor João Peças Lopes, is responsible for selecting the three winners of the master's thesis and, every two years, for the best doctoral thesis.

The winning master’s thesis receives a monetary sum of twenty-five thousand euros, the second-place fifteen thousand euros, and the third-place five thousand euros. A prize of two thousand five hundred euros is granted to each honourable mention.

The announcement of the selected theses will be made in November 2024.
