Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN) has completed a cycle of investments with a view to strengthening the electricity transmission grid in the Trás-os-Montes region.
The completed line interconnects the Valpaços and Vila Pouca de Aguiar Substations, enabling twofold supply to the group of substations in the region. The total investment of the project was around EUR 12 million.
The line stretches for around 35 kilometres, along which over 100 very high voltage posts were installed.
According to REN Investment Manager Albino Marques, “this investment contributes to improving the quality of service in the region and in particular in the councils of Valpaços, Chaves and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.”
As part of the project a second circuit was included in the same very high voltage posts in a section of the line, which will further boost the National Transmission Grid in the future without having to create new lines.
With regard to the environment, REN carried out several studies owing to the need to preserve and minimise the impacts of a sensitive area in relation to the conservation of the Iberian wolf and the zone surrounding the Tresminas Roman Mine complex.
