REN COMPLETES NEW SUBSTATION AT SANTA MARIA DA FEIRA
REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais has completed the new Feira Substation. Costing around 23 million, the facility covers an area equivalent to five football pitches (4.5 ha) and boosts the 60 kV regional network.
The substation includes two 400 kV power line panels that connect to the Lavos and Recarei substations, two 400/63 kV – 170 MVA power transformers and five 60 kV power line panels for connection to another five EDP Distribuição substations, thus strengthening the power injection into the 60 kV regional network.
More than 700 000 m3 of earth had to be moved at the site where it is constructed, because of the very difficult lie of the land. This site was chosen for environmental reasons and because territorial planning in Santa Maria da Feira municipality, where this substation is implanted, has created a very built-up area with few clear zones.
REN Investment Manager Albino Marques explained that the overriding goals of this project were to “strengthen the transport capacity, quality and guarantee the energy supply for consumption needs in the Santa Maria da Feira region.”
