Transemel renews its commitment to fighting climate change for the fourth consecutive year

Transemel has once again been recognised by HuellaChile's National Carbon Management Programme. The REN Group's Chilean electric transport operator has been part of this programme since 2021, under which it is committed to developing initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint.

HuellaChile is a programme run by the Chilean Ministry of the Environment that promotes the quantification, reporting and management of corporate GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions in the public and private sectors.

The programme distinguishes participating organisations into four levels, ranging from voluntary carbon footprint quantification to a declaration of excellence.

The Chilean electricity company's participation in this programme, where it currently ranks at level 1, is in line with REN's decarbonisation strategy and is the result of work carried out by Transemel in conjunction with the Operational Sustainability Department, which collaborated on scope 3 emissions calculation methodologies. During 2025, participation in the Sustainability Academy is planned to train its staff and service providers.

Among the initiatives adopted to achieve this goal, the investment of approximately USD 33,000 in SF6 gas leak management stands out.

For the Transemel team, ‘participating in this national project is completely natural for us, as we deeply believe that our work should contribute to society.’ The Director General acknowledges that HuellaChile will also bring benefits at various levels, such as ‘improving energy efficiency and reducing energy costs’, adding that ‘although we are still a small company in the Chilean energy sector, we want to lead, in a way, a decisive change that will lead the sector to full sustainability and the generation of a positive net impact’.

The HuellaChile programme is supported and funded by the European Commission, the German Government and the Australian Government.
