Transemel, the Chilean electric company fully owned by REN, has renewed the "HuellaChile" seal for the third consecutive year. "HuellaChile" is a program managed by the Chilean Ministry of Environment that promotes the quantification, reporting, and management of corporate greenhouse gas emissions. Transemel first obtained this seal in 2021.
The Chilean company's participation in this program aligns with REN's decarbonization strategy: REN has committed to reducing its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60%, reporting from 2019, and Scope 3 emissions by 30%, reporting from 2021. The goal is achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, as announced during the 2024 Capital Markets Day. Among the initiatives adopted to achieve this goal is also the 30% reduction in SF6 leaks between 2023 and 2022.
The HuellaChile program is supported and funded by the European Commission and the governments of Germany and Australia.
REN has been strengthening its commitment to sustainability, incorporating new goals and initiatives in its Strategic Plan to help promote the energy transition. The company updated its approach after conducting a new stakeholder consultation, focusing its efforts on combating climate change, investing in Natural, Human, and Social capital, and adopting responsible governance practices. By 2025, the company has also committed to developing a Natural Capital Management Strategy, increasing investment in innovation, research, and development, encouraging corporate volunteering, and engaging local communities in new environmental initiatives.
