Guarantees of Origin issue and management system starts in Portugal

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais, in its capacity as Issuing Body for Guarantees of Origin (EEGO - Entidade Emissora de Garantias de Origem), received approval by the competent authorities regarding the documents required to start the activity of issuing and managing Guarantees and Certificates of Origin (GO and CO).
 
Information on the accession process and procedures for the GO and CO issue and management system can be found in the EEGO's Procedures Manual and in REN's website at EEGO. 
 
Guarantees of Origin are electronic documents that certify to consumers that the energy they consume was produced from a specific source or technology. This is an international mechanism resulting from European legislation and which, by enabling energy products to be differentiated, provides consumers with greater power and, of course, greater responsibility, thereby seeking to meet their ever-increasing demands regarding sustainability and social and environmental responsibility.
 
The startup process will take place gradually, with the phase of accession to the EEGO's System by the electricity producers and other participants, for the issue of Guarantees of Origin and corresponding cancellation and transfer operations, starting at the beginning of March. The import/export operations are expected to start in the second half of 2020.
