REN sponsors porguuese olympic team at the London Olympic Games

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais and the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) today signed a sponsorship contract, valid until the end of 2012, sponsoring the COP and the Portuguese Olympic team for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

This protocol, signed by Vicente Moura, President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee and Rui Cartaxo, Chairman of REN, was concluded at the COP's headquarters in the presence of a number of athletes, including Marco Chuva, Telma Monteiro and Nelson Évora. Nuno Delgado, deputy head of the Olympic mission, and Nuno Barreto, President of the Olympic Athletes Commission, both former Portuguese Olympic medallists, also attended the ceremony.

According to Rui Cartaxo, Chairman of REN, 'it is important, not only for the athletes but also for the country, that we should take part in the greatest sporting event in the world. Due to the ambition and values that they represent, the Olympic Games have a special significance for every citizen and every company. It is therefore with great pride that REN is associating itself with the COP and sponsoring the Portuguese Olympic team's participation in the forthcoming Olympic Games in London.'

According to Vicente Moura, President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, 'this is a very important moment for everyone, especially for those who love sports and are so excited by their high point, the Olympic Games. To feel that we have another major Portuguese company contributing to this Olympic enterprise is something that fills us with pride; it reassures us that all our work in recent years is recognised as central to promoting sport and raising the competitive standards of sport in Portugal'.
