REN supports "strong links" with Mozambique

The President of the Republic of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza, made an official visit to Portugal with an entourage of businessmen from that country.  Armando Guebuza took part in a business meeting during his visit, to discuss the new economic and business challenges of both countries.  This meeting, which brought together businessmen and corporate officers of both countries, arises from the 'Strong Links - Mozambique and Portugal' project, in which REN is a partner of the Impresa Group.

The main aim of the second edition of 'Strong Links - Mozambique-Portugal' was to strengthen bilateral relations with national, Mozambican and international scrutiny. The project was covered by the Expresso weekly newspaper and SIC Notícias TV channel. It began with an exclusive dinner-debate for 80 guests, attended by the President of the Republic of Mozambique.  After dinner the SIC Notícias TV programme 'Midnight Express' was recorded, focusing on economic relations between the two countries, and which was attended by Emílio Rui Vilar, Chairman and CEO of REN.

The first Strong Links |Mozambique-Portugal was held in Maputo. It was a high-level business meeting with one goal: find paths and investment opportunities that might leverage the economic growth of both countries.  This project focused on topics like foreign investment, resources and tourism, financing of the economy and social challenges.

The visit of the President of the Republic of Mozambique was also marked by the symbolism of it being the last one the incumbent Mozambican President would make to Portugal and one of his last official visits in the post.  Armando Guebuza is going to leave Ponta Vermelha, the official residence of the Mozambican head of state, after the general elections (presidential, parliamentary and provincial parliaments) on 15 October, since he has reached the limit of two consecutive terms in office, as established in the Constitution.
