REN takes part in the Quercus conference on sustainability and communication

REN will be present at Comunica 2016 - Communication in the field of Environment, a conference held by Quercus to debate the importance of environmental issues and the best way to convey them. This event will take place on 3 November, in the auditorium of the Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto (ISCAP).

REN will be represented by João Gaspar, head of the Property management department, who will cover the work of REN in reconverting access routes, using native species to reforest the areas where power lines run. Through these initiatives, REN seeks to promote the creation of a sustainable ecosystem, generate local employment and encourage a more active participation of owners on their land, which, in turn, will result in a better management of the access route by preventing fires and creating economic value for landowners.

Over the past year, REN A planted around 75,000 native trees, for a total of 260 ha, in the districts of Braga, Viana do Castelo and Castelo Branco, thus continuing a series of reforestation initiatives throughout the country that began in 2010. Among the species planted are: oaks, cork oaks, holm oaks, strawberry trees, stone pine trees and chestnut trees, the contribution of which is fundamental to the restoration of ecosystems and local biodiversity.

REN is one of the companies that contributes the most towards the recovery of the native forests of Portugal, having already planted 535,000 trees between 2010 and 2015, and expecting to reach a million trees between 2018 and 2019.
