REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais opened the period of applications for REN Prize 2019, which, this year, honours doctoral theses for the first time.
This year's edition will honour the best masters' and doctoral theses in the field of energy, executed in Portuguese higher education institutions in the different branches of engineering, also covering the fields of Economy, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Information Systems and Computer Science. The award for doctoral theses is biennial. All doctoral theses which have been argued in the two school years preceding each year in which the Prize is awarded are eligible.
The winner of the Prize for the Best Master's Thesis will be awarded a monetary value of €25,000, with the second prize amounting to €15,000 and the third prize amounting to €10,000. In the Doctoral Thesis category, a single prize amounting to 30,000 euros will be awarded. The REN Prize also provides for the possibility of awarding special mentions to theses that deserve to be recognized for their merit, each of which receiving 2,500 euros.
The panel, chaired by Professor João Peças Lopes, will be responsible for the evaluation of the applications and for choosing the winning theses.
The REN Prize is one of the oldest scientific awards in Portugal and shows REN's commitment to the innovation and development of the energy sector in our country and to the reinforcement of the cooperation between academic institutions, technological development and the Portuguese corporate sector.
Established in 1995, it has evolved to incorporate the developments and transformations experienced by the energy sector over the years. Initially intended for the best students of power networks and systems, it later began to incorporate natural gas and to include applications from a broader spectrum of fields, and is now open to doctoral theses as well.
